Wuhan will launch the 2024 "Design Day" activity on Nov.1. Recently, the organizing committee released the Han DESIGN, the new logo of Wuhan, City of Design.
In early 2022, the UNESCO Creative Cities Network (UCCN) updated its logo design and use guidelines, requiring all member cities to make corresponding changes. As a member of the UCCN, Wuhan initiated the design process for a new logo and launched the "2024 Wuhan Creative Design Competition - Call for New Logo of Wuhan City of Design" to solicit designs from the public. The competition received 528 entries from 109 cities across the country. Ultimately, experts selected "漢 DESIGN" as the new logo for Wuhan City of Design.
The logo features a traditional seal script "漢" character as its main element. The three water dots on the left are stylized into the shape of "wh," representing Wuhan's pinyin initials and emphasizing the city's unique geographical identity. The main body on the right subtly incorporates the English word "DESIGN" into traditional Chinese cultural aesthetics, intuitively showcasing Wuhan's position as a City of Design. The overall design blends Eastern and Western influences, resembling a seal with a professional, atmospheric, andneat font structure. The ancient and heavy appearance reflects the majestic beauty of Wuhan, a city known for its rivers and lakes. It also echoes the design style of the UNESCO Creative Cities Network logo, embodying the differences and fusion of Chinese and Western cultures. The logo effectively conveys the essence of Wuhan as a design city, reflecting the city's cultural and geographical characteristics as well as its industrial features. It offers numerous possibilities for variation and aligns with thespirit of a City of Design city logo.
