In November 2017, Wuhan officially joined the UNESCO Creative Cities Network, becoming the fourth Chinese city designated as a City of Design. In early 2022, the UNESCO Creative Cities Network (UCCN) released an updated logo design and useguidelines, requiring all member cities to adopt the new design uniformly. As a member of the UNESCO Creative Cities Network (UCCN), Wuhan initiated the new logo design competition in early August 2024.
The "2024 Wuhan Creative Design Contest - Call for New Logo of Wuhan Design City" ran from August 15th to September 18th, 2024, with a deadline at 24:00 BJT. A total of 528 design entries were received for the competition, originating from 109 cities across 27 provinces, autonomous regions, and municipalities directly under the central government. Among them, there were 360 valid entries from independent designers, 67 from design firms, and 101 from design schools. Seven experts from Beijing, Shenzhen, and Wuhan conducted online and offline evaluations of the submitted works. The selected works were officially released at the opening ceremony of Wuhan Design Day 2024 on November 1st, and the award ceremony was held at the closing ceremony on November 3rd.
