Urban regeneration is a redevelopment process a city will surely experience at a certain stage of its development. It is a comprehensive planning strategy on a series of measures, such as regeneration, transformation and reutilization of urban land, spaces and assets, with the collaboration of multiple stakeholders. It is a vital approach to promoting sustainable urban development.
Now, China’s urban development is gradually transitioning from large-scale, rapid urbanization to the “sustainable development” stage of urban regeneration. Wuhan, as one of China’s eight mega-cities and a core city of the Yangtze River Economic Belt, has long been devoted to the exploration and practice of urban regeneration.
The reports, including a general report and a detailed report, are prepared by the United Nations Human Settlements Programme and Wuhan Planning and Design Institute. The general report offers the insights of Wuhan for global urban regeneration, with case studies for summarizing its values, concepts and models of urban regeneration. The detailed report shares the successful experiences of Wuhan in concepts, approaches and pathways of urban regeneration. These reports are expected to provide new perspectives and the solution of “Wuhan model” for global urban regeneration.
