International Street Design Challenge
2024 International Street Design Challenge (4th Edition)
Date :2024-09-28 - 2024-09-30
Project Introduction

Kicking off on 28th September 2024, the Street Design Challenge aimed to address the decisive role of public markets to provide benefits such as economic opportunities, links between urban and rural economies, strenghten of social cohesion, promotion of public health, creation of active public spaces and neighborhood renewal. What sets public markets aside from other retail locations is that they operate in public space, serve locally owned and operated businesses, and have public goals. This focus on the public good is what makes successful markets grow and connect urban and rural economies. They encourage community and economic development by keeping money in the local neighborhood.

Centered around the theme "Creative Community Markets: Revitalizing Streets through Local Innovation," this 48-hour challenge, held from September 28 to 30, attracted a record-breaking number of participants from 23 universities and 38 teams across 8 Cities of Design in 5 countries worldwide. The results of the competition were announced at the opening ceremony of WuhanDesign Dayon November 1, 2024.
