Project Introduction

On the morning of November 11, 2017, the opening ceremony of the 4th Wuhan Design Biennale was held at the South Taizihu Innovation Valley Art Museum. On the afternoon of the same day, centered around the theme of "Design forTomorrow", the 2nd Wuhan Creative City Roundtable Conference was convened at Zhaiyage in Wuchang. The meeting aimed to share experiences, reflections, and visions on how creative design can transform cities through the UNESCO Creative Cities Network, and to discuss and practice ideal development pathways for future cities. This was the first extensive exchange between Wuhan and other design cities after Wuhan joined the UNESCO Creative Cities Network as a "City of Design" on November 1, 2017, and it was also an important international exchange event during the Wuhan Design Biennale.

Twenty-four city representatives and experts from eight international design cities, including Buenos Aires, Argentina; Graz, Austria; Montreal, Canada; Saint-Étienne, France; Puebla, Mexico; Singapore; Bilbao, Spain; and Dundee, the UK, as well as seven domestic creative cities, attended the meeting. They shared topics of significance for Wuhan's creative city development, including "How design and creativity can enhance the quality of life for residents in large cities". The representatives from the creative cities within the network congratulated Wuhan on its inclusion in the UNESCO Creative Cities Network as a City of Design and expressed their hope for further exchanges and cooperation with Wuhan within the framework of the network.

On the afternoon of November 11, the representatives and experts from the creative cities visited the Citizen's Home, the Wuhan Planning Exhibition there, as well as the Hankou Riverbank and Zhiyinhao Cruise ship, gaining a deeper understanding of Wuhan's rich creative atmosphere and profound cultural heritage. On the morning of November 12, they traveled to the Qingdao Road Pinghe Packaging Plant to attend the opening ceremony of the Saint-Étienne Exhibition and visit the exhibition.
